Why is a litter box called a litter box?
The term “litter” is specifically used to describe the material in which we place our pets' excrement. Its similarity to the word “bed” refers to the improvised bed that animals make for themselves when they relieve themselves in nature.
The key point to remember is that this term is used to reflect a notion of cleanliness and to provide a clean space exclusively reserved for animals, on the part of humans.
Where should I dispose of the litter box waste?
The easiest solution is to clean the litter box soiled by your cat immediately and then flush the contaminated litter down the toilet. However, be sure to break it up well to avoid clogging your drains while it decomposes.
How often should you change a cat's litter?
First of all, it depends on the number of cats you own, of course. The more cats you have, the more regularly you'll need to do this cleaning.
For a single cat, your litter should be changed at least once a week (with the exception of Odourlock litter which should be replaced monthly).
If you have 2 or 3, you will need to renew them every 3 or 4 days depending on the size of your litter box.
Beyond 4 cats, they will need to be cared for at least every two days.
In summary:
- 1 cat > 1 time per week (except for Odourlock litter)
- 2 or 3 cats > every 3 or 4 days
- 4 or more cats > Every 2 days
If you plan to have several little companions, be prepared to repeat the exercise quite regularly!
