Fluval Stratum is an ideal substrate for stimulating the growth of aquatic plants in freshwater aquariums, as it is sourced from the mineral-rich foothills of the famous Mount Aso in Japan.
Plant roots easily penetrate and spread throughout the substrate, allowing plants to obtain a variety of key nutrients at their disposal and thrive.
In addition, by incorporating a quantity of Fluval micronutrients for plants, aquatic plants obtain a complete supplement of essential macro- and micronutrients. The substrate's light, porous, and non-compacting texture is also very beneficial for nitrifying bacteria, which quickly colonize the vast surface and thus provide exceptional water quality.
The inherent properties of Fluval Stratum substrate help to produce a neutral to slightly acidic pH, perfect for most plant species, as well as for tropical fish and shrimp species that live in planted aquariums.
This substrate also provides an ideal refuge for newborn shrimp, allowing them to escape predators until they are large enough to emerge.
