The bulb simulates moonlight to allow nocturnal observation of the animal without disturbing its day and night cycle. The light emitted is bluish because the glass used is blue. The heat created by the bulb is minimal but sufficient to reproduce tropical night temperatures.
The low wattage of these bulbs does not interfere with natural temperature drops during the night.
